Parlez-vous français?
To prepare for the upcoming trip, Rich and I have been studying up on our French and Italian. Omar gave Rich a few pointers tonight on pronunciation:
Rich enjoyed it so much, he decided to take classes with Omar. For myself, I have been taking lessons for more than a year and a half now. If you live in Los Angeles, I insist you take lessons with Omar at French in Mind. He seriously is the best French teacher and if you don’t believe me, look up the reviews he received on Yelp. They are phenomenal and justifiably so! Omar is a passionate teacher who built his own curriculum that allows students to learn French in a hollistic and fun approach. We even get to practice with his French-speaking friends once a month by hanging out and drinking wine at the Zinque (Venice, California). If you’re interested in joining us, please follow Omar on FaceBook to find out when the next event is going on.
Another way I like to expand my knowledge and vocabulary of the French language is by playing games on my iPhone/iPad. Here are a few apps I recommend:
- Duolingo
- MindSnacks
- SpeakEasy
Learning some basic phrases can be pretty helpful because Parisians appreciate tourists who 1.) try to speak their language, and 2.) are polite. So if anything, know your please (s’il vous plaît) and thank you (merci). When in doubt, find out if they speak English: Parlez-vous anglais? (How to say it with English phonetics: “Par-lay voo ong-lay?”)
P.S. If you are certain about going to France, please RSVP! You will receive a gift from us to help you get around :]
