Mexico City – Day 6 – Pastries and Frida
We had recommendations for a pastry shop around the corner from our apartment, but there never seemed to be time to get there. Cat and I have worked out with the Airbnb a 1pm checkout to allow us more time this morning to squeeze in a few final things. First, a last meal before we go our separate ways.
We got to Panadería Rosetta just in time to find 3 seats at the counter. It’s a very small place, so had we not found those 3 seats we would have been forced to get take out.
This guava danish was incredible. Flaky and buttery pastry surrounding a sweet disk of cream cheese covered by guava jam.
I ordered a ham and cheese croissant and it was just as tasty as the danish.
Cat ordered a sandwich that also didn’t disappoint. The coffee was good and the total bill came to around $4 US per person.
We just barely made it, but we finally got to the post office to send out Cat’s postcards. Where else would we go but the historic post office in the middle of the city; Palacio Postal
We knew we couldn’t get to Frida Kahlo’s house because we didn’t buy tickets in time, but with the extra hour we scored at the Airbnb and a little research, I figured out a way to see some of her work at the Museo de Arte Moderno.
By far the most famous of her pieces at the museum is The Two Fridas.
This is a sketch and other elements of planning the large Diego Rivera mural that we saw at the government building.
Like I said, it’s not much, but we did get to see some of the art. The Two Fridas and this small 4 piece collection make up the entirety of Frida Kahlo pieces at the museum.
And it wasn’t just Frida Kahlo of course. There was plenty of other pretty cool stuff.
We ran back to the apartment, did a final check, and headed to the airport. I must be flagged in Spanish speaking countries because, just like in Cuba, I was forced to tolerate an additional security check before boarding the plane. They patted me down and went through my backpack right at the gate. The flight home was fine, and although Cat and I both ended up the week with colds, we had a really great trip and we would happily go back again.
