Havana, Cuba – Day 5 – Rain and Pizza
Last day in Havana! We have to try and hurry and cram in everything that we didn’t do! Oh wait, we did everything that was on our agenda already. And it’s a good thing because today it is raining. Jungle rain. Buckets of water coming down as we head down to the lobby of the hotel to start our day.
We asked the hotel staff how long they thought it would rain. They said it should be short, so we hung out in the lobby for a while to wait it out. When the rain stopped we walked a block down the road to get some pizza for an early lunch.
Pizza with ham; 3.75 cucs. Cristal beer; 2 cucs. Total cost of the meal; 7.75 cucs. Plus a 1 cuc tip. I can’t think of a place in LA that we could eat a meal that fed both Cat and I for $8.75.
I liked the pizza. I thought the crust was excellent. I’m not sure Cat was as excited about it. Maybe it was just nice to have something familiar to eat.
If you’re a bicycle taxi, it’s raining outside, and you don’t have a cover, then you probably aren’t going to get much work. Clearly this guy has accepted his fate of having a slow morning.
Also seen from our table at the pizza joint. This guy was just looking for a half way dry spot to finish his cigar.
Shopping at the produce cart.
Cat wanted a picture with the ladies of Havana, so we set off to find these two in a plaza nearby. It didn’t take long. They are there for the photo op, and they will gladly take photos with you for 1 cuc.
Since we were almost out of money yesterday, I went this morning to get more exchanged. I had planned to only exchange 100 euros, but when I got to the bank no one spoke any English. So I took the entire 500 euros and decided to use the rest to bring back cigars for those who had put in a request. As this was my favorite tobacco shop I made sure to go back for the nice boxes we were bringing back.
Last chance for car pictures!
So I had to snap a couple!
Here is a local market that also sells food. Cat and I did not buy any food from the local markets, but I don’t think it would have been a problem if we wanted to.
Stick to what you know, and this guy knows tomatoes and bananas.
Last night in Havana, and Cat’s last journal entries.
Early morning wake up tomorrow to go to the airport. Goodbye Havana! It’s been great!
