Day 18: Venice
It’s exactly what we’ve been waiting for…a relaxing few days in Venice to end our trip. This city is even more beautiful than you imagine when you see pictures. Every tiny alley has an amazing old world feel, and the waterways, with the city lights reflecting, make for very romantic strolls. They also lead to being constantly lost!
We hadn’t planned to, but the hotel offered a free shuttle to the little island of Murano.
Free water taxi and glass artists? Ok!
One of 14 master’s of Murano glass.
If you look at the top of the molten glass you can see the horse’s head.
He created this horse in less than 5 minutes. It was amazing.
Murano in the morning on a Sunday is empty.
All of the stores in the town sell glass. Here are some cool glass balloons.
Cat got herself a really nice perfume atomizer.
We took the waterbus (vaporatto) back to Venice with a stop in Saint Mark’s Square.
All of the restaurants are showing off their seafood hoping you’ll come in.
One of the best meals we’ve had on the trip was at Alla Rivetta. The waiters were all 60+ Italian men making jokes. The patrons were mostly gondola drivers drinking wine on their lunch break. And what is pictured is grilled cuttlefish; a Venetian specialty.
Just one of the dark scary alleys…and this is in the middle of the day!
But it’s still a really beautiful city, even if it is a little eerie all the time.
