Dîner en Blanc
For the second year in a row, Cat and I attended Dîner en Blanc; a worldwide dinner party.
Diner en Blanc started in 1988 by François Pasquier. He wanted to have a dinner with his friends outside in a public setting, so he asked that everyone wear white to make it easier to find each other. The same group got together the following year, each of them inviting a few more friends, until the event grew into the worldwide spectacle that it is today. For more on the history check out this page.
Each guest (or group) must bring their own table, chairs, table cloths, table settings, cutlery, and food. The dishes cannot be disposable, and a table-cloth is required on every table. Guests must wear white head to toe. Guests who do not follow any of these rules risk being left out of the dinner.
All guests arrive at various meeting points throughout Los Angeles with their supplies for the event. Most of the meeting places have are bus pickup locations, with a few locations walking to the ultimate destination. And no one, including many of the event organizers, know the destination until we are on the way. The entire bus ride is filled with speculation with everyone making guesses about the undisclosed location of the event.
Once the bus arrives, it’s a mad dash. Grab your supplies from the bus and get setup!
